The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, will host a colloquium on his penultimate predecessor, late Oba Adesoji Aderemi on 4 July.
The colloquium is a special edition of the Yoruba Historical Conversation organised by the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN) Commission.
Four professors of history and political science will speak at the colloquium while Prof. Olutayo Adesina will moderate the discussions.
The speakers are Professors Akin Alao, Abimbola Adesoji, Siyan Oyeweso and Tunde Babawale. Oba Ogunwusi is the host.
With the theme “The Philosopher-King, Ooni Adesoji Aderemi: 40 Years After,” the colloquium will mark the 40th anniversary of his death.
He ascended the throne in 1930 and died in 1980.
The virtual meeting, which will be conducted on Zoom, will also be live on YouTube and Facebook.
Explaining the rationale behind the event, the Director-General, DAWN Commission, Mr Seye Oyeleye, said the conversation is coming in form of a colloquium to allow notable historians to bring different perspectives to the life of a Yoruba oba who played an active role as a king and political leader in Yoruba land and Nigeria at large.
He added that the late revered oba was chosen to also elicit interest in the wider populace in certain aspects of rich Yoruba history which the late monarch represented.
The meeting is slated for 10 am.
