Some protesters on Thursday kept vigil at the entrance of the Lagos House of Assembly, Ikeja in a bid to express their grievances against extortion and brutality by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
They the protesters built tents at the entrance of the Assembly, which police operatives dismantled and carted away.
It was learnt that security operatives later dismantled the tents and attempted to disperse protesters.
About 11.30pm, the streetlights providing illumination to the protesters went off, causing scare that they may be attacked.
One of the protesters told newsmen that they had arrived at the entrance of the Assembly a few minutes to 10 pm.
A twitter user, @SavvyRinu said: “We are in danger, World! Let it be known that we are currently being harassed by the @PoliceNG. They want to kîll us! We will not ask for help from anyone! So nobody should do anything. I can’t tweet anymore”
Popular comedian, Debo Adebayo, known as Mr Macaroni, who also joined the protesters, lamented the actions of FSAR operatives.
Earlier in the day, Folarin “Falz” Falana and Douglas “Runtown” Agu led a protest to call for scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit in Lagos.
Tiwa Savage, Rudeboy, Bolanle Ninalowo, PocoLee, Blacqbonez, Pamilerin, BBNaija Prince, and other celebrities also joined the protest.
He appealed for the intervention of government, adding that many Nigerians are unsafe in their homes.
He said, “To be here is not because we dont have a home. It is because we are scared that even when at home, bullets can find their ways into our heads. So we want the government to step in and step in now.”
After listenting to the demands of the protesters, part of which included the total disbandment of the anti-robbery squad, Speaker Mudashiru Obasa appealed to the them to returm home.
He assured them that there would be an emergency meeting Friday morning with the Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other concerned authorities.
