Tanzania’s late President, John Pombe Joseph Magufuli who served as the fifth president of Tanzania from 2015 until his death in 2021, was born on 29 October 1959.

He served as Minister of Works, Transport and Communications from 2000 to 2005 and was chairman of the Southern African Development Community from 2019 to 2020.

He was first elected as a Member of Parliament in 1995, he served in the Cabinet of Tanzania as Deputy Minister of Works from 1995 to 2000, Minister of Works from 2000 to 2005, Minister of Lands and Human Settlement from 2006 to 2008, Minister of Livestock and Fisheries from 2008 to 2010, and as Minister of Works for a second time from 2010 to 2015.

Late President John Pombe Joseph Magufuli wasn’t a saint but was a true son of Africa. Here are things he achieves during his time:

He rejected a $10 billion loan from China

He banned Government officials from foreign trips and abolished their tax exemptions.

Magufuli accused UK company, Acacia Mining of illegal mining and ordered them to pay $193 billion for undervaluing Tanzania’s gold exports.

He reduced the cabinet’s size from 30 to 19

Over 250 containers of theirs were seized at Dar es Salaam port.

They paid $300 million and gave Tanzania 16 per cent ownership in three mines.

Magufuli introduced free education in government schools in 2016. He acquired 6 Air Tanzania planes, expanded Terminal III of Julius Nyerere International Airport.

He built Tanzania Standard Gauge Railway, Mfugale Flyover, Julius Nyerere Hydropower Station, Ubungo Interchange.

He didn’t go on state trips outside Africa

Magufuli built Selander Bridge, Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, Huduma Bora Za afya, Vituo Bora Za Afya, expanded Port of Dar es Salaam, Dodoma Bus Terminal, an LNG plant, a water project, a wind farm project, Uhuru Hospital project, a gold refinery plant, and Magufuli Bus Terminal.

 

Late Magufuli excelled in infrastructure and financial affairs. He faced numerous accusations of human rights abuses and was accused of repressing the opposition. He also banned explicit images or videos online.

Magufuli refuses that Tanzania will not order or buy any Coronavirus (COVID-19), Vaccine from the West or anywhere.

EU recalled Its ambassador to Tanzania over Magufuli’s LBGT crackdown.

He skipped the UN general assembly!

He denounced the UN human rights report.

Banned all foreign trips for public servants.

Magufuli deported the UNDP CR head.

He deported the Head of EU Delegate to Tanzania.

European Union stopped its financial support to Tanzania.

Magufuli denounced the EU-East African trade deal as a form of neocolonialism.

European Union declares Magufuli a Dictator.

He refuses to bow to New World Order.

He refuses to put Tanzania under WHO C-19 guidelines.

Magufuli declares Covid a Scam.

Magufuli refuses to Take Loans and grants from World bodies to deal with COVID-19.

He welcomes Madagascar’s traditional Vaccine for covid.

A Tanzanian wrote on Magufuli and what he has accomplished in five years, that ought to have been, in five decades.

He writes:

Magufuli sacked over 13 ministers and over 19k corrupt civil servants.

He built 96 district hospitals and over 400 health centres.

He had overseen over 90 per cent of the whole country getting electrified down from 20 five years ago. ( This year, Tanzanian will be the 1st African nation to have 100 per cent electrification)

He built a water system similar to Gaddafi’s, tunnelling Lake Victoria’s water to cities 500kms away.

He brought back civil service discipline, no one despises another in any govt office today. ( You could be despising an undercover cop!)

He has controlled Tanzanite mining and selling, India and Kenya are no longer the leading sellers in the world market, like when he wasn’t president.
