Imo hunter shoots girlfriend’s private part over alleged cheating

A hunter, Chidube Onyema in Imo state, has allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Chinwendu to death for allegedly cheating on him.

Residents of Umuokirie village in the Okuku district of the Owerri West Local Government Area of the state were thrown into panic on Sunday after the tragic death of Chinwendu.

Onyema on suspicion that Chinwendu was cheating on him, reportedly assaulted and shot her.

A community source confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying the victim had just returned from Aba, Abia State, and visited her manfriend from her village, Ohabele in the Obosima community, Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area.

The source said that the trouble began when Chinwendu, who had only a few hours to return to Aba, picked up a phone call before her lover. After the call, the perpetrator supposedly requested that she hand over the phone to him, which she refused.

Onyema was angered by the situation and stormed into his room, taking out a pistol and allegedly shot her in the private part.

“On Sunday evening, the girl travelled from her village in Ohaji/Egbema to Chidube. That evening, she was scheduled to return to Aba. The trouble began when the girl finished answering a phone call and the guy demanded to know who had called her, according to the anonymous source.

“When the lady couldn’t come up with a plausible answer, he requested her phone, which she refused,” he continued.

“The man took his gun and requested the phone, but the lady declined. They began dragging the phone, but the trigger was unintentionally pulled, and the bullet entered the lady’s private parts.

“As the villagers gathered, she passed out. She was airlifted to Owerri’s Federal Medical Centre, where she died three hours later.”

According to further revelations, the victim’s brothers came from Obosima on Monday in revenge and allegedly set fire on the suspect’s parents’ home.

When asked about the incident, Martin Daniel, President-General of the Okuku Autonomous Community, told reporters that the community was working with the police to restore peace.

The perpetrator was however apprehended on Sunday, and his pistol was recovered and taken to the Umugumma Divisional Police Headquarters, according to Daniel.

According to him, they alerted the authorities, who put out the fire that had consumed the suspect’s home.

When contacted, Orlando Ikeokwu, the Imo state police spokesman, said the suspect had been arrested and the case had been transferred to the state’s CID in Owerri.
