The administration of Governor Bala Mohammed is set to conduct a census of all commercial sex workers in Bauchi State.
This was disclosed In a report by Naija News, by Aminu Balarabe Isah, the Permanent Commissioner in charge of Hisbah and Sharia implementation, during a workshop organised for commercial sex workers.
The commissioner added that the majority of the ladies in prostitution are from the result of illiteracy, poverty or abuse from family members.
Isah said the state needed accurate data on the prostitutes in the state, which would help to discourage them from continuing with their line of trade.
He further disclosed the government’s plan to organise empowerment programmes, with some capital to help start small-scale businesses.
He also stated that efforts would be made to reunite them with their families and mass marriages would be provided for those interested and ready to get married.
