Armed Banditry: Imo Moslems sue for peace, security


In the face of a lingering wave of insecurity in Imo State, occasioned by incessant attacks on security agencies and stations by suspected IPOB/ ESN gunmen, the chairman, Imo Moslem Council, Malam Basheer Uwakwe, has, on behalf of the Muslim faithful in the state, appealed for peace and security of lives and properties of the citizenry.

Addressing journalists in Owerri on Thursday, Malam Uwakwe, said that, security of lives and property of citizens of Nigeria is not only a primary responsibility of government at all levels, but, everyone -citizens’ concern, while urging’ Moslem umar’ in the state to embark on fervent prayers, with a view to ending armed banditry, and associated insecurity in Imo state.

Uwakwe also, expressed worry over the ceaseless attacks and killing of security operatives by the armed bandits, even as he commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP squad, led by Abba Kyrai, for the special intervention in remedying armed men’s insurgencies in the state, by way of circumspection, and accurate target of operation base of suspected armed bandits, without a record of loss of lives of Imo citizens in the fight against criminals.

According to the Muslim scholar, and chairman of the council in the state, the intervention by the IGP squad is a clear indication that the police authorities maintains the lead in internal security in Nigeria.

He, however, commended the governor of Imo state, Sen.Hope Uzodimma for his gallantry in ensuring that peace and security is returned, and maintained in the state.

Uwakwe advised people of Igbo ethnic nationality in Nigeria to embrace national unity as people of one united Nigeria.
