Come 20 August 2021, Abuja, Kano, Bichi, Daura and other parts of the North will be the place to be for fun-seekers as the son of President Muhammadu Buhari, Yusuf Buhari, will be wedding Princess Zahra Nasiru Ado Bayero, daughter of the Emir of Bichi.
Since last week, friends and associates of Yusuf Buhari have started series of programmes preparatory to the wedding by organising a powerful horse racing and polo tournament in Kaduna, Kano and Abuja as part of activities to mark the wedding which is expected to be second to none.
A few months ago, powerful cabinet ministers and businessmen including governors and society women were at the palace of Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, who shares the same parents with Nasiru Ado Bayero, Emir of Bichi, to present what in Hausa is called “Lefe”, meaning materials for the wedding.
It was reported that part of what was presented includes raw gold, money in cash and other expensive assorted clothes.
Yusuf Buhari, who graduated from a University in London and Princess Zahra Nasiru Ado Bayero, who is still in the final stage of her degree programme in London, are at the moment globe-trotting the world to showcase their upcoming wedding, virtually inviting prominent foreign dignitaries, including heads of states, diplomats, army generals, business gurus to grace the wedding.
But already, Ulamas and other members of the society are condemning the new idea of pre-wedding pictures, some of them allege that, if those from poor families display on social media the type of pictures the daughters of prominent personalities such as Ganduje, Ribadu, Nasiru Bayero are showing off, they will be condemned.
