3 medical doctors charged for professional misconduct over death of Lagos-based chef, Peju Ugboma

The Medical Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), has filed prima facie case of professional misconduct on three of its doctors over the death of a Lagos-based chef, Peju Ugboma.

The case was filed against the doctors after an investigative panel which looked into the petition filed by Ijoma Ugboma, husband of the deceased, and reached a decision on 28 October 2021.

This was made public on Wednesday, 10 November in a letter to the widower, signed by the Medical Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) Secretary, Dr E. D. Abudu, was made public on Wednesday.

According to the council, the doctors are identified as Akiseku Adeniyi Kazeem, Kelechi Kingsley Renner, and Motunrayo Amadu, they will face the Medical and Dental Practitioners Tribunal.

The 41-year-old Peju, the founder of the pastry company, I Luv Desserts, died on April 25 at Evercare Hospital in Lekki where she was rushed to after she developed complications from surgery performed at the Premier Specialists Medical Centre in Victoria Island.

Olisa Agbakoba Legal (OAL), who represented the petitioner, requested a coroner’s inquest into Peju’s death and allegations of negligence against Premier Specialists.
