Gov Buni presents N164 billion budget for 2022

Governor Mai Mala Buni on Thursday presented the 2022 budget before the Yobe State House of Assembly in Damaturu.

The budget termed “Budget of Continuity, Empowerment and acceleratd Development” according to the Governor entails a total expenditure of one hundred and sixty four billion, fifty-four million, three hundred and eighty-four thousand naira (N164,054,384,000) indicating 17.3 per cent increase over the previous budget.

Recurrent expenditure is to gulp ninety one billion, four hundred and twenty five million, seven hundred and forty-three thousand naira (N91,425,743,000), while seventy two billion, six hundred and twenty eight million, six hundred and forty-one thousand Nlnaira (N72,628,641,000) is allocated to finance capital expenditure.

He said that N56.9 billion representing 34.7 per cent has been earmarked for governance including the Government House, House of Assembly, Office of the SSG, office of the Head of Service, Ministry of Information, State and Local Government Auditor General’s Offices, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Budget and Planning, among others.

He said the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation was earmarked N29.8 billion representing 18.2 per cent while N28.7 billion was allocated to education representing 17.5 per cent of the budget size.

While speaking on the budget, Buni said in the year 2022, the Government intends to maintain its policy on prudent management of resources, observance of due process and ensuring good value for money.

He said all ongoing projects will be completed as well as ensure the provision of basic infrastructure, the general increase in agricultural production and improving commercial activities and enhancement of Internally Generated Revenue for speedy post-insurgency recovery and development.

Meanwhile, the Speaker, Lawal Mirwa, commended the Governor for the successes so far recorded in the implementation of the 2021 budget.

He assured that the House would ensure speedy passage of budget before the end of the year.
