Yobe State Government in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme on Monday commissioned 600 units of locked up shops and market stalls in Buni-Yadi town, Gujba Local Government Area (LGA).

The project was part of concerted efforts at reconstruction and rehabilitation of the areas affected by the insurgency.

Speaking during the inauguration of the projects, Governor Mai Mala Buni said the project is in line with the fulfilment of their campaign pledged of resettling the displaced communities.

He added that Buni Yadi is one of the commercial nerves of Yobe State, pointing out that it will rejuvenate the economic status of the people of the area as well as create a conducive environment for the business community “that is why we pulled resources together to improve the livelihood of our people”.

The Governor further disclosed that his administration has gone a long way in the provision of agricultural input to farmers appealing to the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the project. “We also extend our goodwill message to all our partners for the support and cooperation always”.

Earlier, the Chairman Gujba Local Government Area (LGA), Alhaji Dala Mala thanked the Governor for the monumental projects in the area which includes a complete renovation of General Hospital Buni Yadi, support to the security agencies, construction of clinics, modern market, schools, roads and drainages, culverts, boreholes among others too numerous to mention.

The Council Chairman further commended the government for the provision of democracy dividends to the people of the area, “on behalf of the Council, people and community, we assure you of our unflinching support, loyalty and cooperation”.

On his part, the Commissioner Yobe State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Dr Abubakar Garba Iliya explained that the project includes 500 market stalls and 100 lock-up shops adding that it is a great testimony of Governor Buni’s commitment to the improvement of lives of the citizens “Buni Yadi has suffered the devastation of the insurgents in the past”.

Buni Yadi was once under the control of the Boko Haram insurgency between 2014 to 2015 before it was liberated in 2016 without shelter or existing structures.

Meanwhile, Governor Buni has also inaugurated the Buni Gari International Primary school.

The school was constructed through partnership between Yobe State Government and Shell Petroleum Company.

“This project will no doubt impact on the lives of the beneficiaries” he said.

The new school has four blocks of classrooms with a total number of 16 classrooms.

“I am optimistic that the project will contribute towards the long term security and socio economic status of the beneficiaries” Buni said.
