COVID-19: Nigeria may experience 4 wave, Lagos suspends annual fiest

As some countries in Europe and in Australia are beginning to take drastic measures to avoid another surge of infections of Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Lagos State Government has warned that the country may experience a fourth wave of the pandemic by December.

This was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi during a press briefing on Friday.

Abayomi said passengers coming into the country from high-burden countries might increase the spread of the virus.

He said, “Many Nigerians staying abroad will be returning home to celebrate Christmas with their families. Most of these people will be coming from countries where there is a heavy burden of COVID-19 and where we know the virus is changing and mutating.”

To this, the state government has suspended the annual Greater Lagos Fiesta.

The state commissioner for tourism, arts and culture, Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, who announced the suspension on Saturday, said the decision was taken following advice from medical professionals.

The one-month event with the theme “Lagos Rocks”, had been scheduled for December with activities around entertainment, art and culture.
