Group sensitises community stakeholders on effective response to insecurity (video)

Family Care Development and Advocacy Foundation recently organised a sensitisation workshop for community stakeholders from selected states in the northern part of Nigeria on how to effectively respond to issues relating to insecurity in their respective localities.

The participants include youths from the Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the selected states, volunteers, women groups, traditional leaders, as well as ward heads.

The workshop which was tagged: Secure the Family Sensitisation Programme gave discussants the opportunity to highlight the dangers on community members’ direct and indirect involvement in the activities of banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping.

It was also an avenue for the organisers to have a first hand information on the plight of the people in some of the affected communities with a bid to taking it up with the relevant authorities.

In her welcome address, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Project Lead for Family Care Development and Advocacy Foundation, Dr Asma’u Bello Abubakar urged participants to educate members of their respective communities on the importance to avoid getting themselves involved in issues related to insecurity.

Parents were also advised to teach their children societal and family values, a key component in ensuring peaceful coexistence amongst members of the community.

“We are here today to discuss issues germane to insecurity because it affects all of us. We are not here to discuss those perpetrating the acts but we are here to advise each other, to tell each other on how to avoid getting involved with issues relating to insecurity,” she said.

Also in attendance were Babangida Ahmad Dan Madam, Social and Community Engagement Lead; Dr Sadat Ibn Adam, Finance and Admin Expert and state focal persons in respective states at different periods.

Presentations were made in English, Hausa, Kataf, and fulfulde languages to facilitate easy assimilation of and contribution from participants.

The workshop was held in Zamfara, Kaduna and Adamawa States.
