Suleiman Kwande set to contest for Jos North/Bassa by-election

The seat for the member representing Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency has exceeded the 90 days deadline stipulated by parliamentarians to conduct by-election and elect a new member into the house of representatives.

Honourable Suleiman Kwande made this disclosure in an exclusive interview with our correspondent regarding the long delay in conducting a by-election into the seat of Jos North/Bassa which remain vacant since the demise of Honourable Haruna Maitala who died in a ghastly motor accident.

He disclosed that the vacuum created by the dead of Alhaji Haruna Maitala has brought so many challenges and a lack of dividend of democracy to the electorates in Jos North/Bassa constituency.

However, it is getting to over seven to eight months that the assembly of Jos North/Bassa has been without any contestant for the by-election.

Kwande further said in the remaining few months for the present government to leave office, someone with much experience is needed to lobby for opportunities that would benefit the people of the state.

He urged the people of Jos North/Bassa constituency to vote for a candidate with credibility, experience and integrity who can deliver on continuity, “I have the requisite experience to canvas for federal projects within the shortest period but if this exceeds next year, there won’t be anything for us,” he explains.

Kwande lamented that the period in which the seat was not declared is a big disappointment and unfortunate to the people of Jos North/Bassa constituency where they just had recruitment in customs, immigration, police and others.

He also decried about the staff who are employed to work under the late member Maitala, who no longer work in Jos North/Bassa constituency because of the vacant seat.

Kwande also revealed that the money for constituency projects amounting to about 125,130 million is still unaccounted for.

According to him, “Years ago, I campaigned for Speaker Rt. Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila but he could not win but now that he is in the upper chamber, I will use my connection to lobby for employment, viable constituency projects and empowerment opportunity which is currently been enjoyed by a few people.
